APS School Board Candidate Questionnaire

From personal experience, I can tell readers that school board candidates will be unsatisfied by the Albuquerque Journal’s coverage of the election.

Not only will the coverage be scant, but the subjects on which they may comment are limited in scope and depth.  Candidates will by allowed to respond only to Journal questions, and will be limited in the length of their response.  We for example, were limited to 25 word responses by the Tribune, who ultimately replaced many of our carefully worded responses, with clip art.

Therefore, I will dedicate exclusive use of this site to school board candidates who will then have the opportunity to comment on any issue, at any length.  They can ask each other questions, they can build on each others responses.

I would begin with three questions.

School Board Member’s duties are limited; they approve budgets and approve capital spending, they hire the superintendent, and they write policies for the district.

The three questions would then be;

if elected to the school board, what would you promise voters in terms of

  1. budget?,
  2. hiring the superintendent?, and
  3. district policy?

School board members can respond by means of comments on this post, which I will post without censoring them in any way.

If they would like to send me a picture, I would be happy to post it as well.

If candidates would like to record a video presentation, it can be posted on “youtube” and a link can be established from this site.

If anyone one of them has a suggestion that would make this effort more suitable to their individual needs, I will make every effort to address that need.

In District 3, the candidates are; Jeffrey Rich, Lorenzo Garcia, Agatha (Aggie) Lopez, Anna Armijo, and Leonard DeLayo.

In District 5, the candidates are; Renee Louise Rosales, Paula Maes, and Carolyne De Vore-Parks.

In District 6 the candidates are;  David Robbins, and MaryLee Martin.

In District 7 the candidates are; Michael Swisher, Patrick Marron, and David Eugene Peercy.

I will contact each as quickly as I am able with limited available contact information.

Update; as of 10:30, Monday, 12, 22.  I have made personal contact with all of the candidates, and or responsible adults who committed to passing the information along to the candidate.

Thank you for this forum. I will respond in greater detail in a day or two, but I’ll submit this for now.
I have a degree in Economics, and an MBA in Finance. I have approximately 30 years experience developing, managing, analyzing, and measuring performance to budgets, including capital budgets. I will carefully review the 2009-2010 and subsequent budgets and expect APS’ administration to be forth coming with information to fully and truthfully respond to my inquiries.
I want to work with Superintendent Brooks to provide our students the best education we can , without placing an undue financial burden on taxpayers. He will have my confidence so long as that remains his priority and that of his administration.
APS must have a Code of Conduct/Ethics Policy that covers all employees, including Administrative. The policy needs to cover Board members also. On December 3, I addressed this at the Board meeting and it will be a high priority for me. Transparency and accountability should not be the exception in APS, it needs to become part of the culture.
